A point of view.
A responsibility.
Commentary, not neutral reporting
EDW is an independent opinion publication. Its essays include argument, interpretation, satire, and personal recollection. Those forms are not a substitute for factual accuracy.
Sources and context
Source links appear within essays or in a separate source-and-context section. A link supports the specific subject it addresses; it is not a claim that every statement in an essay has been independently fact-checked. Readers should consult original documents and consider the date and scope of each source.
The archive has a date
Archive dates identify when a piece was written, recorded, or posted on Facebook, rather than the date it was added to this website. Facebook post dates are shown in Pacific time. Exported text may include edits made on Facebook before the export; where earlier versions cannot be established, we say so rather than inventing a first edition. Older articles can contain time-sensitive language. Where relevant, an archive note provides context without silently rewriting the essay.
Corrections, updates & clarifications
When we establish a factual error, we correct the passage and add a dated note explaining what was wrong and what changed. The original publication date stays visible. A correction affecting an argument, a person’s reputation, or a consequential claim appears near the top; smaller factual corrections appear below the essay.
We use “Correction” for an error, “Clarification” for wording that was accurate but unclear, and “Update” for new developments. Routine spelling, punctuation, and formatting changes do not need a correction notice. If an error undermines an article’s central premise, we explain the problem prominently and consider whether the article should be withdrawn.
If you spot a factual error, raise it through EDW’s Facebook page, with the essay title, the disputed passage, and a reliable source. Material factual corrections should be identified on the affected article.
Reader privacy
This site’s saved-reading feature uses browser-local storage. It does not create an account or send the reading list to EDW. Civic resources send you to outside organizations; EDW does not collect voter-registration details. External sites have their own privacy practices.
Artwork
Essay artwork is presented as illustration. It should not be treated as documentary evidence of an event. Some illustrations, including AI-assisted artwork, were created later as the website archive grew. The date on an essay is its original publication date, not the date its graphics were added.
