We at Executive Dysfunction Weekly have repeatedly sounded the alarm about attacks on judicial independence.
Guess what?
We’re about to do it again, because there is nothing more vital to the health of our democracy than protecting the rule of law.
In a recent exchange before Congress, Senator Adam Schiff and University of Pennsylvania Law Professor Kate Shaw laid bare the alarming, escalating attacks on our federal judiciary. President Trump’s persistent personal assaults on judges (labeling them communists, lunatics, and monsters) are not just unbecoming of a president; they’re dangerous.
These attacks aren’t harmless political theater.
Schiff and Shaw warned that this rhetoric endangers judges and their families. Judges are now receiving threatening messages and sinister gestures, like unwanted pizza deliveries bearing the name of a murdered judge’s son. This latest form of intimidation is terrifyingly real.
Professor Shaw highlighted how attacking judges and law firms represents a calculated strategy to silence and dismantle any institution that checks presidential power.
The judiciary is the final, critical check against authoritarianism, and undermining it isn’t merely reckless; it’s an existential threat.
We love Adam Schiff for bravely confronting these assaults head-on, demanding accountability, and spotlighting the dangerous trajectory we’re on. We’re grateful for voices like Professor Shaw, who clearly articulate how perilous these attacks are.
So yes, we’re talking about this again. And no, we absolutely do not apologize.
We’ll keep hammering this message home until every citizen recognizes what’s at stake.
Democracy depends on an independent judiciary.
Attacks on judges are attacks on democracy itself.
Wake up, speak out, and defend our constitutional safeguards while we still have them.
